A little taste of what’s inside:
Your Message Should Match Your Mastery You may have noticed that I’ve been using a cute new banner for this newsletter. It’s part of a re-brand of Intentional Articulation—a space for thoughtful entrepreneurs and creators becoming as intentional with their words as they are with their work. It’s newsletter number four, and I’m just introducing it. I know. 😂 I’ve learned that sometimes I just have to get things done without announcements. I have to make it happen for myself before I go public with it. But after four published newsletters, there’s enough evidence that Intentional Articulation is here to stay. Every week, my intention is to invite you to get introspective and practical about how you use language to guide your personal and business life (which go hand and hand)—and how your words impact your mood, your focus and your results. It all begins with you speaking as the greatest you. This is the place where your message matches your mastery. The words we don't say aloud matter, too It’s been nine full days since I’ve eaten a cooked meal. Do not call for help. 😂 My spiritual home has been hosting a 9-day fast every September for the past 11 years. The guidelines are simple: three days of raw fruit only, three days of water only, and finally, three more days of raw fruit only. This is my sixth year completing the fast, and this year, I felt a lot hungrier than I remember feeling in previous years. So much so that I found myself irritable and complaining, so I told a good friend of mine to hold me accountable for not complaining aloud for 4 hours. I gave myself a 15-minute grace period before beginning (and I used every minute of it)! In the middle of my "no complaining zone," I noticed something: I was not complaining aloud, but my thoughts were still full of complaints. And those complaining thoughts were affecting my mood. I read somewhere that our experiences aren’t what impact our emotions, but the way we perceive them does. The stories we tell ourselves become our internal dialogue, and that dialogue shapes how we feel about what’s happening around us. How we feel impacts the way we experience things, and thus perpetuates a cycle that is fueled by our thoughts! I was telling myself all kinds of stories that were making the fast feel more undesirable than it had to be. Thankfully, I caught what was happening and could course-correct. As I changed the words I was using internally, my mood changed too. I became less prone to complaining aloud—not because the fast suddenly became easy, but because I was practicing awareness of the stories I was telling myself. And that has made the experience better overall. The words we don’t say aloud still matter. Sometimes the first conversation that needs more intentional articulation is the one no one else can hear.
